WHY DO I NEED A CBT TEST?
If you hold a Full or Provisional Licence, You need to take a CBT compulsory basic training course to allow you to be safe and legal to ride on the road. A full car licence passed before February 2001 can ride up to 50cc without taking the CBT Test, with this entitlement it would be best to complete a CBT Course for your own safety. If you wish to ride 125cc you will need to complete a CBT Course.
WHAT IS A CBT COURSE?
The CBT course is set out in five different elements. A, B, C, D, E. Each element has to be completed in order, you will only move onto the next element when the instructor is satisfied you understand the theory behind the element and can demonstrate the practical skills to a safe basic level.
The CBT course is not an exam; There is no theory test or practical test. The CBT Course is compulsory basic training; the CBT course makes sure learners have the skills, knowledge and understanding to go out on the road, on their own, to prepare for their DAS riding tests.
WHAT DO I BRING TO THE CBT COURSE
You must bring both parts of your full/provisional UK driving licence, photo card and counterpart, all we ask if you have a good understanding of the highway code, and feel competent in riding a bicycle to help you with training and control of your motorcycle or moped during the CBT.
WHAT DO I NEED TO WEAR?
You are required to wear jeans or trousers which cover the ankle. You will need sturdy footwear, leather trainers or boots. We will supply you with helmet, jacket and gloves. If you need to wear glasses or contact lenses, you need to bring them with you as your required to read a number plate from a minimum of 66 feet, 20 meters .
HOW LONG WILL THE CBT COURSE LAST?
The CBT course will last one day, around 6 -7 hours. London bike training has a 92.6% first time pass rate, not every leaner completes the CBT course first time around. In the event of this happening you will be offered the chance to come back on another day for more training and practice.
WHAT DO I GET AFTER MY CBT TEST?
When you have completed the compulsory basic training course (CBT) to at least the minimum standard required, you’ll get your certificate, also known as a DL196.
WHAT DOES THE CBT COURSE ALLOW ME TO DO?
At age 16+ your certificate of completion lets you ride a moped 50cc on the road No motorways with L plates for 2 years. After this time you will need to complete another CBT Test. At age 17+ your successfully completed CBT allows you to ride a moped or motorbike from 50cc up to 125cc on the road, No motorways with L plates for 2 years. After this time you will need to complete another CBT Tes.
If you hold a current full UK car licence passed before 1st February 2001, you are entitled to ride a 50cc moped carry a pillion passenger and do not need to display L plates. If you passed your licence after 1st February 2001 you must successfully complete a CBT course before riding on the road.
